Interview and Giveaway Alert!

Today Passionate Encounters is very pleased to have Delilah Marvelle on the blog today talking about her new release Forever and a Day.  Personally, I am so excited about this interview.  I have loved Marvelle since Prelude to a Scandal the first in her Scandal Series, I just couldn't believe all the historical sexual knowledge she knows and I just loved the fact that she delights in sharing it.  Today, along with the interview Delilah will be giving away a signed copy of her latest which is just the start of a delectable new trio of books entitled The Rumor Series.  So without further ado, here is the fantastic Delilah Marvelle!
Delilah Marvelle is also giving away a signed copy of Forever and a Day.  Rafflecopter form below.
First of all, thank you so much for being my very first interview! It is such a pleasure. Would you please introduce yourself and tell us what made you decide to write romance?

My name is Delilah Marvelle and I write historical romance.  Why historical romance?  It’s a two fold question.  I started writing horror until I met my husband and fell in love with the idea of being in love.  I combined it with my other love: history.  History holds so many secrets and seems so untouchable yet enchanting in a fairy-tale sort of way.  It is the ultimate “what if” in which I have to unravel and find clues by piecing together a past I can only touch through my imagination and research.

Tell us which you prefer; an outline or going with the flow?  Does it change with each book you write?

I go with the flow.  And it doesn’t change from book to book, mostly because it’s how my creative process works.  I get to know my characters by just writing and writing.  It allows me to spend time with them, as I would with real people.  I enjoy fleshing them out until I know who they are and what they want.  If I plot too much out, the thrill of the story is gone and if I know what’s going to happen, so will my readers.  Also, if I know what’s going to happen, why write it?  That’s the adventure seeker in me.

How long does it take you to write a book?  I imagine it gets easier and therefore goes more quickly with each book you write.

It depends on the book and the amount of research I have to do.  Sometimes, a book can take me as little as three months.  Sometimes, as long as five.  And that’s me writing 24/7.  And omgosh, no.  It doesn’t get easier with each book I write.  It gets harder.  Because I keep growing as a writer and therefore I keep setting goals for myself to aspire for more.   As I know more and learn more,  I become more focused in how I write the book and by becoming more focused, it requires even more time than the last.

What is the best thing about being a romance writer?  Do you or did you have any fears about writing?

Best thing about being a romance writer would have to be the readers.  Romance readers are AMAZING.  So loyal and so passionate.  I don’t want any other readers but romance readers.  Do I or did I have fears about writing?  I always fear I’m never good enough.  I always fear my next book will disappoint my readers.  It’s what I live with whenever I write a book.  It’s the doubts, but I’ve learned to master those doubts or the books would never be written.

When your not writing, what activities do you get into?

I hang out with my family and friend, run, hike, travel, read and try to live life in any way I can.  You can’t write about life if you’re not living it.

I personally love to ask this question of anybody.  If you hadn’t become a romance writer, what would you have done?

I would have totally been a race car driver.  Totally.  I love cars and speed and the two give me a thrill I’d be willing to settle for if I couldn’t do my writing.

Have you ever thought about writing in any other romance genre?

Nope.  I love history WAY too much to give it up to anything else.  LOL.

Can you describe any challenges of writing historical romance? The obvious answer is researching, but any others?

Unlike a lot of contemporary writers, I can’t touch the past.  I can only imagine it.  And that can be hard sometimes, because what I imagine to be real isn’t what other people imagine to be real and as such, people have difficulty accepting my perception of history.

Do you start with character or plot?  Where do you get ideas for your characters?

I always start with an idea and then take it from there.  So I’d say plot.  And based on that plot, characters thrive.  My characters are an extension of the people I know and have met.  And I have met some pretty crazy and interesting people throughout my life.  All of them lend a thread to who I am and what I write.

Can you tell me a time when you were researching a book that you came across an interesting little tidbit?

I always come across interesting tid bits and am always fascinated by the raunchy ones, in particular.  My blog, A BIT O’MUSLIN (
www.DelilahMarvelle.blogspot.com) is the result of those tid bits.  When you stumble upon secrets in history that was never taught in school, like how Egyptians were buried with attached, enlarged penises which they believed would become real once they passed over to the other side…it’s hard not to...laugh.  Or be morbidly fascinated.

Finally, can you tell us what is next for you?  What your currently working on?

After the Rumor Series, I plan on completing the School of Gallantry Series, which was the very first series I wrote about a school that educates men on the topic of love and seduction.  I’m so excited to finish this series!  What am I currently working on?  FOREVER A LORD, which is the third and final book in the Rumor Series.  We’re talking about a bare knuckle boxer who has turned his back on who he really is: a Lord of the aristocracy.  I can’t say much more as I don’t want to give details away, but I’m really, really enjoying  this book and can’t WAIT to share it with my readers.  It comes out in January 2013.

Now, really.  Finally, I read on your website that your husband is a model and a firefighter? Is this true?

YES.  My husband is a model AND a firefighter.  Where the heck do you think I get all my inspiration from?  A girl has to be inspired and I’m lucky enough to say, oh, yes, I am.

And now for an exciting excerpt of Forever And a Day. You will have to march on over here though. You will not be sorry.

Who is this heroine running away from?  lol
