Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Title: Beautiful Disaster

Author: Jamie McGuire

Publication: Atria Books

Release Date: August 14, 2012

Series: Beautiful Bk 1

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

                                                   My Review

I have no idea what to say about this book.  I have no idea how to start this review.

I first realized that this book could be something special after getting more than one email in my inbox letting me know that in effect I had to drop everything and read this book from an author I have never heard of.  Now, I get quite a lot of emails for books to read but something about this one had the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, and had my gut telling me in no uncertain terms that I had to literally drop everything…meaning the two books I was in the middle of and had a deadline for reviewing…and read this one.

I always listen to my gut.  Yes, sometimes I procrastinate; I hem and haw until I finish the books I have to read.  But not this time.  The last time I got this feeling for a book was for Sylvia Day’s Bared to You, so I knew I had to read it.  And like Day’s book I completely missed my bedtime and in fact missed my waking up time to, I was certainly draggin the next day.  Make that the morning of the day that I happily and sadly finished the book.

Abby Abernathy is your typical college freshman with a dark past.  Travis Maddox is your typical bad boy who all the girls love but he only has eyes for one.

Beautiful Disaster to me was a younger version of Bared to You.  I just could not get over the similarities of both.  I laughed, I cried, and was thrown for a loop by the beautiful writing.  I just love how an author can make you a part of their world with their rich description and depth of emotion that they pull out of you when you finish the last page.

I’m eagerly waiting for the sequel, Walking Disaster coming next year.  NEXT YEAR!!  *sigh* Yeah.

  1. Awesome review! I love when a book makes me lose time because I am living in it's world with it's characters. This one sounds like it achieves that. I am defintely going to have get it now! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Megan. :)
